My Silky Fairytale by da-phil My Silky Fairytale by da-phil
Captured at the Låtefossen waterfall in Norway.

It was a pain in the arse to get this shot to say the least. Due to the weather conditions I spend almost one hour, half of the time only waiting for the rain to stop. When there was a short rain break I rushed to the locations I scouted out earlier, armed with an umbrella and a microfibre cloth in order to keep the lens free from water. Must have been hilarious for people passing by to see me jumping around with an umbrella, tripod and camera :D

However I found it hilarious too when I saw people taking pictures with flash while they were sitting in their caravan and passing by the waterfall, haha.

This was my last frame I was shooting back at this place and it was already starting to rain and it was about to get dark, hence I used high ISO. I didn't think that this shot would turn out good anyway, so I didn't bother going higher with the ISO. However this turned out to be the best shot of this evening, that's life...

I was able to replace most of the noisy image areas by another exposure which was captured earlier. Now I'm quite happy with the result, there is also way more details in the forest on the right side. The foreground was intentionally left very dark, otherwise it would distracted too much.

I would like to see more angles, makes it more dynamic.
The grain/noise bugs me a lot.
The color just feels a bit, off.

Everyone tries to get this picture, most everyone likes waterfalls, but if you look at most waterfall pictures they are painfully lacking in originality.

Consider this your next time out: it is wet, it is rainy, it is a pain in the arse, I get a chuckle out of it, can you convey these feelings through the lens? If you do not wish to convey these feelings you must be able capture those that are offered, and as you clearly expressed, you were seeking to capture only those that you had pre-conceived.

To me, it does not matter where you are, you can be along side a perfectly dull part of a trail, but if you are keenly aware of your environment, you will find something there that will grab your attention and take you away. Perhaps all that is offered is just trees, needles, and a trail, but that does not mean it is without a story.

Good luck shootin’!

Personally, I really like this photo. It reminds me of going to the lakes with my family in the summer, and brings up some very happy memories!

I like the color contrast, how the blue and green colors are natural yet vibrant, in a way. I also find the atmosphere very intriguing, with the fog and smooth water and whatnot.

I think you did very well with the composition, in the way that you positioned the camera so that the bridge sort of leads our eyes down the water. I could have done without the plants in the foreground, but that's just me.

I must admit that I don't really think the lighting matches up in this's a little dark, first of all, but some areas of the water seem to be lit up. It's actually kind of unique, but probably not the greatest technically speaking.

I do agree about the grain, it bothers me quite a bit, especially in the trees to the right.

I've seen a ton of waterfall pictures, but I think what makes this one stand out is the bridge and how you can see the mountains in the way distance. The photo captures your eye immediately and is very appealing to look at.

Wonderful work!
